Shuggie Otis - Aut Uh Mi Hed

Last year, one of my favorite groups, Cinematic Orchestra made a contribution to the LateNightTales compilation series. I suggest you take a listen, because it's loaded with great music - some I knew before, some first revealed to me through this record.

Gorillaz - Doncamatic (Feat. Daley)

I found out about Daley late last year when he appeared as a guest on this Gorillaz track. I've been a fan of Gorillaz since their 2001 self-titled release, which has become a classic, but it wasn't until I heard this acoustic take of "Doncamatic" recorded live for BBC's Radio 1 that this track really struck my attention.

There are a couple of voices in the music industry that give me a boner, and I think Daley's soulful vocals do just that for me. I'm looking forward to hearing more from this R&B newcomer.

Aaliyah - It's Whatever

As a lad who grew up in Chicago and spent many weekend afternoons (after Saturday morning cartoons) watching the Box, my love for Aaliyah grew and fell in love with her and her goofy eye-patch!

Back in 2001 when her plane crashed I was far from the R&B/Hip Hop music circle, so her death wasn't as impactful as it should have been.  Ten years later i find myself listening to her music, on heavy rotation, every few months.  This week Aaliyah's self-titled (and last release) has been playing on my ipod daily.
